Savage murder of a taxi driver by Sotira

Two fatal shots were fired by a 66-year-old taxi driver from Sotira, Pantelis Antoniou (Ropas) who was in a parking lot, outside the Taxi Office on the busy Nisi Avenue in Ayia Napa.

The victim fell dead from the shootings, which came from a shotgun of his 35-year-old colleague from Xylofagou, whose sister was married to the victim's son.

The unfortunate man was shot while playing backgammon with his colleagues. His death was instantaneous, while the perpetrator who escaped in a double-cab vehicle is wanted by the Police.

The murder took place around 12:45 pm, in front of many people present.

According to information, the victim's son and the perpetrator's sister recently divorced and since then there have been several family disputes between the two. Police are examining whether the murder is related to these disputes.

They arrested the suspect

Police proceeded to arrest the suspect. According to information, the Police located the alleged perpetrator of the murder, in his house.

According to the first information, the victim was outside the taxi office where he was working and playing backgammon with a friend when a person riding in a bipolar vehicle stopped the vehicle and shot twice at the unsuspecting victim.

The perpetrator used a shotgun and hit the victim in the neck and body.

The unfortunate taxi driver was rushed to the General Hospital of Free Famagusta where he died.

Ropas was married and the father of four sons. One of the son of the victim was married to the sister of the alleged perpetrator, that is, he was his father-in-law. However, the couple recently divorced and since then there have been several family differences between the two. Police are examining whether the murder is related to these disputes.
