The Minister of Interior Mr. Socrates Hasikos chaired this morning a regional meeting of communities of the Province of Famagusta, in Liopetri, which was attended by the Community Councils of Achna, Acheritos, Avgoros, Frenaros and Liopetri.
In the afternoon, the Minister chaired a regional meeting of communities of Larnaca District, in Oroklini, which was attended by the Community Councils of Pyla, Xylotympos, Xylofagou, Ormidia, Troullon, Kellia, Avdlelerou and Oroklini.
In his statements to the media, Mr. Hasikos said that these meetings take place in the context of his series of visits to the Provinces, for on-site examination and resolution of problems faced by the communities. "There may be other issues (in the news) of paramount importance," said the Minister, "but we can not downplay the local problems. That's why I'm here. "
Then, commenting on a journalist's remark that the creation of Green Points seems to be a universal request, Mr. Hasikos said: "It is an issue. There is a request now, for each community to have its own Green Point. When this policy was started, it was not welcomed by either the Communities or the Municipalities, because they thought that the Green Points were intended for garbage disposal. But it's not like that. The Green Dots are not for littering, but for example, pruning. In any case, we are moving forward. This is not only a matter for the Ministry of Interior, but also for the Ministry of Agriculture. We will see with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Department of Environment ".
In both meetings, issues related to the wider in each Province were discussed, as well as issues concerning each Community separately, such as: Road lighting, opening of self-housing plots and needy families, problems in the road network due to sewerage, completion of the road construction project Karyon in Avgorou, upgrading of the coastal road of Larnaca Dhekelia, construction of a coastal road of local importance (Pyla), construction of a coastal pedestrian road (Pyla), construction of a flood channel (Xylofagos), acceleration of construction procedures for the Hall ( Dimokratias and Vattainas (Ormidia) streets, sewerage problems in the self-housing settlement in Kellia, widening-asphalting of part of the Voroklini-Pyla road and others.
