Student conference in Paralimni under the auspices of the Presidency

The migration of international students to the EU is the main topic of the annual conference of the European Migration Network, which takes place in Paralimni on October 29-30 under the Cyprus Presidency.

According to a statement, the findings will be used as a tool to amend EU directives for students and researchers.

The Conference will be addressed by the Ministers of the Interior and Education, and on behalf of the Commission's Directorate-General for Home Affairs, Diane Schmitt. In addition, Commissioner Androula Vassiliou will take part in a high-level roundtable discussion.

Measures aimed at attracting international students, their rights and responsibilities in EU Member States, student access to the labor market, and international cooperation to facilitate mobility will be the main topics to be discussed during the during the Conference. The aim is to support the policy-making process in the field of immigration and international students, and in particular to develop the envisaged revision of the relevant Council Directive.

The European Migration Network (EIP) aims to provide up-to-date, valid, objective and comparable information on immigration and asylum issues to support EU decision-making.
