GREECE: Negative remained unburied because his relatives were not convinced he had died of coronavirus

The coronavirus death certificate was given to the relatives, but they did not accept it!

TUBED 2 NEGATIVE, CORONARY, autopsy

Relatives of a man who fell ill and died of coronavirus prevent his burial - They asked for an autopsy-necropsy in order to determine the causes of his death
The first case of denial, whose relatives requested an autopsy-necropsy after his death, in order to ascertain and convince him that he had died of coronavirus, occurred in Northern Greece and specifically in the hospital of Serres.

According to information, this is a 66-year-old man from Drama, unvaccinated who fell ill with coronavirus and had to be hospitalized for about a week in the hospital of Serres. His condition was such that the doctors deemed it necessary to intubate him and hospitalize him in the ICU-covid clinic, where he eventually ended up.

The coronavirus death certificate was given to the relatives, but they did not accept it! They were not convinced and did not believe that the death of the 66-year-old came from a coronavirus, while they also had the positive PCR in their hands.

So, they left him in the refrigerators of the hospital for about two or three days, until they started and completed the necropsy-necropsy procedures, in which they proceeded, in order to be convinced of the causes that led him to death.

It is noted that the cases in which the relatives do not accept the coronavirus as a cause of death are many in the hospital of Serres, but this is the first that was persistently requested and finally an autopsy was performed.

In fact, for the procedure, the body was transferred to the Laboratory of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Thessaloniki. There, the autopsy was performed by a state medical examiner and in the presence of an expert appointed by the 66-year-old family. It was finally confirmed that there was a huge and extensive lung lesion, which came from the coronavirus.

Only then, his relatives were convinced and finally picked him up and proceeded to bury him.

"Unfortunately, this is not the only case in which relatives dispute that the cause of death is the coronavirus. There are many cases in our hospital. However, this was the first, during which an autopsy-necropsy was requested ", said the director of the covid clinic of the Serres Hospital, Theofilos Kallinikidis.

The ICUs are full

At the same time and according to him, the ICU of Serres hospital is suffocatingly full, with intubated people waiting their turn to enter the ICU.

"Currently, all ten beds in the ICU are occupied. "Two intubated patients are waiting for a bed to be emptied, while for two other patients requests have already been submitted to EKEPY for their transfer (one intubated, the second in a ward), as there is no other possibility and we are waiting…", underlines Mr. Kallinikidis , capturing in the most characteristic way the pressure exerted on the hospital.
