The Ministry of Finance rejected the request of the Independent Union of Civil Servants of Cyprus (ASDYK) for salary compensation of the salaries of civil servants, who were adversely affected, due to salary cuts and the freezing of increases and promotions in 2012.

ASDYK had sent a relevant letter to the Ministry of Finance, dated November 25, 2021, expressing its request for remuneration for all civil servants, while focusing its attention on low-paid employees, in the salary scales A1-A7.

"A large group of employees in the A2-A5-A7 scales are expected to remain stuck in the A2 scale and to move up to the A5, as they are today, the data will take a total of 18 years (13 levels of A2 + 5 years of freezing) and a total of 26 years to rise to the A7 scale ", the union states in an announcement.

That is why they demanded that "employees move up the A2 to A5 scale when they reach the lower level of A5 (in 14 years, including 5 years of freezing) and from A5 to A7 when they move up to the lower level of A7, ie in 22 years. including 5 years of freezing ".

However, the response of the Ministry of Finance, in its letter of February 7, 2022 was negative, as the financial conditions do not allow it, as stated.

"Low-paid employees, as well as all civil servants, saw their salaries cut to save the Banks, which were solely responsible for the financial crisis. Ten years later it can not be said with certainty that they were saved. However, we can say with certainty that the civil servants, mainly of the A2-A5-A7 scales, have experienced the reduction of their earnings, at levels of 2010 and have been experiencing the fixation on the same scale for years ", the union states, expressing its dissatisfaction with the negative response of the Ministry to its request.

Finally, as they note, this request is not only made by the members of ASDYK, but by all civil servants and they call on the Ministry of Finance "to listen to the messages of the employees, instead of easily rejecting fair claims".
