Famagusta: 37,5% reduction in building permits

The number of building permits shows an increase of 9,8% in the period January - August 2017, compared to the corresponding period last year, according to data released on Wednesday by the Statistical Service.

With these permits, it is planned to build 813 more housing units, compared to the eight months of 2016. Only in August, building permits show an increase of 7,6%, compared to August last year.

In particular, according to the Statistical Service, during the period January - August 2017, 3.772 building permits were issued compared to 3.434 in the corresponding period of 2016.

The total value of these permits increased by 49,1%, to € 947,96 million, and the total area by 39,5%. The number of housing units increased by 36,3%.

According to the Statistical Service, the number of building permits issued by municipal authorities and district administrations in August 2017 rose to 410, compared to 381 in August 2016, an increase of 7,6%.

The total value of these permits reached € 90,3 million and the total area 85,0 thousand square meters. With these permits, 244 housing units are planned to be built, compared to 229 in August last year.

By province, the number of building permits increased by 2017% in August 4,9, in Famagusta shows a decrease of 37,5%, in Larnaca records a decrease of 13,2%, in Limassol an increase of 32,5% and in Paphos shows an increase of 27,3%.

Building permits are an important indication of future activity in the construction sector.
