The 48-year-old death row inmate was found dead in his cell in a Nevada prison. He hung himself with a sheet from the airway. He had been begging for his execution for a long time, but it had been postponed twice, due to a dispute over the drugs used in the lethal injection.

Dozier was convicted in 2007 of killing his 22-year-old associate, whom he dismembered and put in a suitcase. Two years earlier he had been convicted of the murder of another man with whom he was involved in the methamphetamine trade, whom he buried in the desert. The 48-year-old had waived his right to appeal since 2016, saying he was ready to die. And since then he has been waiting for his execution.

However, the execution was postponed twice. Initially in the fall of 2017 and then last July. Both times the reason was the drugs used in the lethal injection. The last time the postponement occurred was a few hours before its execution, following a request from a company that manufactures one of the three substances to be used, as there was concern about the commercial reputation of the laboratory in question.

Because of his suicidal tendencies, Dozier was on a prison surveillance program. However, in December he denied that he was trying to end his life. "It is the responsibility of the state to execute me. "I have been ready to leave for two years," he said at the time.
