With a new proposal on the refugee problem, the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, is coming and stirring the waters in the European Union.
According to a Guardian report, Tusk is expected to address European leaders on the issue, saying mandatory refugee quotas were a "divisive and ineffective" measure. The European official seems ready to abandon this policy.
Countries directly affected by the abolition of the plan are Greece and Italy, at a time when the two countries are constantly calling on Europeans to manage the situation.
At the same time, the reaction of Germany and Sweden is expected, a point that will reduce their aid to the other Member States.
According to the British newspaper, Tusk will give European leaders six months to reach a unanimous agreement.
"If there is no solution… including the issue of mandatory quotas, the president of the European Council will present a way forward," Tusk wrote in a letter to the Guardian.
