Russia today confirmed that the Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19 developed by the Gamaleya Research Center in Moscow is 95% effective.
These are the preliminary results of tests performed on volunteers 42 days after the first dose, the research center, the Russian Ministry of Health and the Russian State Fund, which was involved in the development of this vaccine, said in a statement.
However, they have not yet clarified the number of cases used for the calculations.
"The price of a single dose of the Sputnik V vaccine for the international market will be less than $ 10" (about 8,42 euros), the Russian State Fund said in a separate statement, explaining that the vaccine will be free for Russian citizens. .
This Russian vaccine is currently in the third phase of randomized, double-blind, clinical trials - an experimental approach used in various industries - in a sample of 40.000 volunteers.
Although Russia has so far been sparing in the scientific documentation of the vaccine, which has been praised by Russian President Vladimir Putin, the creators of Sputnik V reiterated today that the study will soon be published in "one of the world's leading medical reviews and peer".
