In Cyprus, the first batch of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is expected to be delivered on December 26 and, according to the plan, vaccinations will begin on December 27.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health welcomes yesterday's approval of the European Medicines Agency and the European Commission for the release of the vaccine developed by Pfizer-BioNTech in the Member States of the European Union. This development, according to a statement, is a consequence of the favorable for all states initiative of the European Commissioner for Health Stella Kyriakidou, which ensured the access of all members of the Union to the vaccine for the disease COVID-19.

Following yesterday's developments and the approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, the distribution of the vaccines to the states begins immediately.

It is clarified that based on the schedule given by the manufacturer and the European Commission, the vaccines will be delivered in installments on a weekly basis and it is estimated that Cyprus will receive in the first quarter of 1 about 2021% of the total quantity ordered and 28% of the expected quantity of vaccines, as indicated by the Commission under the agreement for the quarter in question.

Given the prioritization of population groups with priority for vaccination, the first batch of vaccines will vaccinate approximately 8,000 people with priority given to nursing home staff and health professionals at the reference hospital.
