Recep Tayyip Erdogan's supremacy after his election victory will strengthen him in the hard political line he has adopted, according to analysts.
"Strengthened by the new political legitimacy, Erdogan will finally establish a presidential regime and pursue a policy of self-affirmation nationally and internationally," said Jana Jabbour of the CERI / Sciences Po Institute.
Sunday's election, marking the transition from a parliamentary regime to a presidential one in which the president controls all executive power and can rule by decree, took place almost a year after the April 2017 referendum that gave the green light. light for state change. Erdogan has been campaigning for two years for the referendum and then for the snap parliamentary and presidential elections.
During those two years, Erdogan pursued a relentless policy against his political opponents in the pogrom that followed the failed coup in July 2016. This was followed by a general crackdown that strained Erdogan's relations with the West.
This situation has led to a serious crisis in relations with the European Union, which has multiplied criticism of the violation of individual rights and freedoms, angering Erdogan.
According to analysts, the Turkish president took advantage of this tension to provoke nationalist sentiments in the electorate.
