The man who killed 28 people this morning in a crowded bar in the California suburb of Thousand Oaks was a XNUMX-year-old ex-soldier, Ventura County Sheriff Jeff Dean said.
The suspect, who according to all indications committed suicide after the massacre, was named Ian David Long and had served in the Marines.
"We have had many contacts with Long for a number of years, for minor episodes," the sheriff explained in a press conference, as reported by Reuters and the French Agency and relayed by the Athens News Agency.
Last April, police went to his home and, because he was behaving "irrationally", called in psychologists.
Long appears to have accidentally shot his victims inside the bar, using only a 45mm pistol. His motives remain unclear.
