The Public Health England (PHE) announced today that, according to preliminary data, the levels of coronavirus found in people infected with the Delta variant are the same, regardless of whether they are vaccinated or not.

There is preliminary evidence that people who have been vaccinated against it Covid-19 are likely to be able to transmit the Delta variant of the coronavirus as easily as those who are not vaccinated, the UK Public Health Service has announced.

The findings, which require further investigation, coincide with the findings of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which last week warned that people vaccinated against the Delta variant could, in contrast to other variants, to transmit it.

Vaccines have been shown to be effective in providing adequate protection against serious disease and death from Delta, but there is less evidence as to whether vaccinated individuals continue to transmit it to others.

"Initial findings suggest that virus levels in those infected with Delta who have already been vaccinated may be similar to those in unvaccinated individuals," the UK Public Health Service said in a statement.

"This is likely to affect the contagiousness of humans, whether they are vaccinated or not. "However, this is an early exploratory analysis and further targeted studies are needed to confirm whether this is true," the statement said.

PHE confirmed that of the confirmed cases of Delta variant infection, which have been treated since July 19, 55,1% concerned unvaccinated individuals, while 34,9% concerned individuals who had received two doses of Covid vaccine.

PHE refers separately to another variant, B.1.621, which was originally detected in Colombia and has been shown to evade the immune response elicited by vaccines against Covid or a previous disease. He describes the variant as "under investigation" and not as a "variant of high interest".

"There is preliminary laboratory evidence that vaccination or previous infection may be less effective in preventing infection with B.1.621 variant," PHE said, adding that 37 confirmed cases of this variant have been reported in the UK.

"However, these data are limited and further research is needed. "There is no evidence that the variant is more contagious than the dominant Delta."
