Facebook chairman and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has personally and formally apologized to Congress for making mistakes in protecting the social networking site users' personal data and for political manipulation.

"It is clear today that we have not done enough to prevent these tools from being used incorrectly (…) We did not take much of our responsibility and that was a big mistake. "It was my fault and I'm sorry," he said, amid turmoil over the Cambridge Analytica personal data leak scandal.

"It will take time to make all the necessary changes to reduce these misuse," he added.

The young billionaire testifies before American MPs during hearings that began yesterday and will continue today. The goal is to determine how the data of tens of millions of Facebook users ended up in the hands of Cambridge Analytica.
