At least 15 people have been killed and XNUMX others unaccounted for by a landslide that followed torrential rains and widespread devastation in the remote southern village of Villa Santa Lucia in Chile, according to a new report released by the authorities on Sunday.
The mud swallowed most of the houses in this isolated village of about 300 inhabitants, in the area of Los Lagos, 1.100 kilometers south of the capital Santiago.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency (ONEMI), ten families had to be evacuated from their homes.
The previous official reports spoke of eight dead and 12 injured.
The villagers were unable to take part in the presidential elections held in Chile yesterday Sunday and the conservative candidate Sebastian Pinera won.
