The Turkish military and its rebel allies have surrounded the northern Syrian city of Afrin, the Turkish military said today, stressing the significant progress made by Ankara in its operation against Kurdish fighters on its southern border.
In a statement, the Turkish military also said it had occupied "critical areas" in the region.
On Monday, a Turkish government spokesman said the armed forces had taken control of more than half the area.
