French police cordoned off the Iranian consulate in Paris where a man threatened to blow himself up, France's Europe 1 radio station reported.

According to Reuters, police forces rushed to the scene and asked the public to avoid the area.

According to Europe 1, the person is currently hiding in an Iranian consulate building located in the 16th arrondissement of Paris and is threatening to blow himself up. The man is said to be wearing an explosives belt, armed with a grenade-like object and threatening to detonate it.

As a security measure and by order of Paris police headquarters, metro lines 6 and 9 were shut down and the area cordoned off.

According to the same sources, it was the embassy that contacted the prefecture of Paris to report the person's presence and requested the intervention of the police.
