With the votes of the nationalists that exceeded all expectations, Recep Tayyip Erdogan continues in the Presidency of Turkey. The Turkish President secured 53% against 31% collected by his main opponent Muharrem Ince.

Erdogan's alliance with the nationalist party secures the Turkish President 346 seats in the National Assembly out of a total of 600 seats. More specifically, the ruling party has 292 seats and the nationalist party 50, which means that the implementation of its decisions will need the support of the MHP.

On the opposite bank, the CHP, iYi and SP national alliance won a total of 34% and 192 seats in the National Assembly. Aksener's Good Party in the final did not hit as expected the percentages of the nationalist party from which it split.

The AKP had a 6,5% drop in its share, and although it could be said to be important, however, given that the election was a big test for the Turkish President, Erdogan managed to pass it successfully.

Erdogan: The people are the winners

Erdogan gave a triumphant speech from the balcony of his party's headquarters in the capital Ankara, stating:

"The winner of this election is each of the 81 million citizens"

A stronger, richer and fairer Turkey was promised by Erdogan in his speech after his re-election as President of Turkey, stating that the turnout, which reached 90%, taught lessons of democracy around the world.

Erdogan is expected to take extended powers and become the first President of the new system, after the referendum.

Ince acknowledged Erdogan's victory

"I accept that Erdogan won," opposition candidate Muharrem Ince was quoted as saying in a statement to Fox TV reporter Ismail Kiuciukaya, according to opposition media.

For his part, Republican People's Party (CHP) spokesman Bulent Terzan said they would continue to monitor the results until the announcement of the Supreme Electoral Council, but urged citizens not to provoke, whatever the outcome.

The opposition denounces the manipulation of the result

The official opposition has questioned the results broadcast by the state media, denouncing the manipulation of the result. The final results will be announced on Friday. Ince is expected to make statements on Monday.

The reaction of Nicosia

"Hope to create data that will favor the resumption of talks," said Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulidis after the result of the Turkish elections.

"Elections have taken place and we expect Turkey to respond to the initiative of the UN Secretary General to determine what the real intentions are. If anything has changed in relation to what we have heard, such as 'Leaving the United Nations'. If negotiations can take place. The Greek Cypriot side is ready ", stressed the Government Spokesman Prodromos Prodromou, in his statements.

First analyzes

Speaking to AlphaNewsLive, Internationalist Zenonas Tziarras said that the results of the double Turkish elections were not expected for most analysts as a second round of presidential elections and the loss of the parliamentary majority for the AKP-MHP alliance was expected. "This proves that Erdogan's influence has been consolidated in his conservative-nationalist base due to ideological and economic factors. The next day will see Turkey remain politically and socially polarized around the pro-Erdogan / anti-Erdogan dipole, while the Kurdish element emerges strong despite persistent and widespread repression. Finally, the election results introduce Turkey to the beginning of the completion of the "Erdogan" vision for a "New Turkey" with a milestone in 2023. On this basis, the country's foreign policy will remain assertive and revisionist as well as important for international and regional forces ", he concluded.
