The funeral of the Anglican Archbishop of South Africa Desmond Tutu will be held on Saturday, January 1, in Cape Town, in the church of St. George, his old parish, his foundation announced.
In a statement, the foundation said that within the week, until Saturday, a series of events are expected to take place in South Africa in memory of Desmond Tutu.
The president had earlier said that South Africa was mourning and flags would be flown at half-mast in all public buildings and embassies abroad as soon as the date of the funeral was announced.
"The fact that we knew he was ill for some time did not mitigate the blow that South Africa suffered that day," commented Cyril Ramafoza.
