Turkey: Two dead in polling station after clash

In the province of Malatya in southeastern Turkey

Two civilians were killed in the province of Malatya in southeastern Turkey, after a clash inside the polling station, as reported by the Turkish agency DHA.

The victims are Hassan Aktas and Iliyas Aktas, with the first information referring to a father and son and they were shot inside the school that operated as a polling station.

According to the DHA, the tragic incident took place at 10:30 in the morning and started with a verbal dispute between rival teams which turned into a quarrel, with some pulling out their weapons and eventually the two specific people being fatally injured. Police closed the center and a large part of the area as a precaution, in order to avoid escalation of the tension and proceeded to arrest the person who allegedly shot.

Meanwhile, in another incident in Diyarbakir, a quarrel broke out in a polling station of a candidate for mayor (mukhtari) with the opposing groups using batons and knives, resulting in two people being injured, one of them seriously, according to the DHA.
