The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said any discussion of a revision of the treaty defining the borders of its neighbors Greece and Turkey would not help stabilize the region.

The ministry statement came a day after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke of updating the Lausanne Treaty.

"Bulgaria believes that a discussion on peace agreements and existing borders is not in the interests of the international community and stability in the region. "Any revision of the international treaties can only take place after mutual agreement between the countries, based on international law," the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said, urging Athens and Ankara to "continue on the path of dialogue".

The ministry added that it discussed the issue with the Turkish ambassador in Sofia.
