At least 18 dead

At least 18 people were killed on Wednesday when a tanker carrying acid collided with a bus on a road used mainly by mining vehicles in southeastern LG, Congo.

The accident took place in the Katanga area, between Lububasi and Kolouezi, on a road that crosses an important field, which is named after two villages, Tenke (Bronze) and Fungurum (Kovaltio).

The tanker, which carried Tanzanian signs, was bombed by a parked bus and the acid it was carrying was carrying passengers, according to the head of the Lulalaba provincial traffic police, who said 21 people had been killed and XNUMX injured.

Lualaba Health Minister Sami Kayobo said 18 people had been killed and 12 injured.

As of noon today, the tanker remained on the side of the road and the acid had spilled, reaching the river in the village of Cambue, according to UN radio station Okapi.

Accidents are common in Congo's LD, where most roads are not paved.
