The special refrigerators for storing Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines were received and installed today. Due to the special storage conditions of the vaccines at -75 ° C, the Ministry of Health, in the framework of the agreement signed by the European Commission with the manufacturer, proceeded with the purchase of two special refrigerators.
Approximately 130,000 doses of vaccine can be stored in each refrigerator. According to the Officer of the Pharmaceutical Services, Mr. Costas Heimonas, "the refrigerators have all the prescribed safety systems that will cover the whole 24 hours", while, he added, if there is a need, the team set up by competent Officers of the Ministry of Health will be informed. , to intervene immediately to address a potential problem.
As Mr. Heimonas explained and according to the National Vaccination Plan of the Ministry, "the vaccines will be stored in a central location and will be distributed in the Vaccination Centers all over Cyprus".
It is recalled that according to planning of the Ministry of Health, the vaccinations will be carried out by trained nursing staff and Health Visitors in the 38 Vaccination Centers (with the possibility of operating up to 100 workshops) that will operate in all Provinces. The monitoring of the vaccination process and the stocks will be done through software that enables, even to monitor the route of the vaccines from the storage area to the Vaccination Center.
At the same time, it has been drawn up shot with priority groups, with the plan stipulating that workers and residents of nursing homes and health professionals will be vaccinated first 1th line (ICU, Chambers COVID-19, Ambulance Service, TAEP, etc), while then the vaccines will be given to people over 80 years and people over 75 years with priority to those who fall into the vulnerable groups.
