Categories of citizens with risk factors for serious illness from COVID-19

Patients in the following categories can preferably work by teleworking or in places where they do not trade with the public and there is no increased transit of people, observing the protection measures as provided by the health protocols:

  1. Pre-existing Chronic Respiratory Disease (eg severe bronchial asthma, patient undergoing chronic oxygen therapy or non-invasive ventilation [CPAP or BiPaP] at home, severe pulmonary hypertension (NYHA III and IV), severe pulmonary fibrosis, ).
  2. Severe Chronic Renal Failure (creatinine clearance below 15 ml / min and dialysis).
  3. Congenital heart disease after surgical correction with significant residual damage or uncorrected congenital heart disease with significant residual damage.
  4. Active use of biological agents (eg TNF inhibitors, interleukin inhibitors) or other immunosuppressive drugs.
  5. Patients with a history of solid organ or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
  6. Patients with solid or hematologic malignancy receiving chemotherapy or radiation or immunotherapy.
  7. Patients with HIV or patients with CD4 lymphocyte count <200 / mm3.
  8. Hereditary or acquired immunodeficiencies.
  9. Pregnant or pregnant women with preeclampsia, gestational diabetes or other disease that increases the risk of complications.
  10. Heart Failure of any etiology (Ischemic or non-ischemic) stage according to NYHA III or IV. Cardiovascular Disease:
  • Recent acute coronary syndrome or revascularization surgery: angioplasty or stent implantation in the last 12 months
  • Aorto-coronary bypass (CABG (bypass)) in the last 12 months, and
  • Recent SLE in the last 12 months or with established neurological semiology.

The above categories have been selected based on the existing international literature and taking into account the epidemiological data of the disease epidemic so far. COVID-19 in the international arena and in the Republic of Cyprus.
