Unsecured checks worth € 438.000 were presented to Cypriot banks in April, according to data announced by the CBC on Wednesday. It is the largest monthly value of unsecured checks presented at least since 2020, while comparatively it corresponds to more than half of the total amount of unsecured checks presented throughout 2020.

In January 2022 the total amount of unsecured checks presented was € 149.558, in February € 93.811 and in March € 64.852. In total, in 2021, unsecured checks worth € 933.945 were presented.

According to the CBC data, the number of natural and legal persons registered in the preliminary list from January to April 2022 amounts to 81, while 69 persons were registered in the Central Information Archive (CAP) during the same period.

The preliminary list includes all unsecured checks presented to the Banks and Cooperative Credit Institutions, ie all checks that in their last presentation, and after 15 days have passed from the first presentation, remain unpaid due to lack or insufficiency of available funds of their issuer. .

Natural or legal persons, who have issued unsecured checks and have been registered in the preliminary list, are automatically transferred to the main Archive, if they meet the registration conditions provided in the relevant Instructions, ie if they have issued three or more unsecured checks regardless of the amount or have issued unsecured check or unsecured checks for a total amount over € 2.000.
