According to the design of the National Vaccination Plan for COVID-19 and the prioritization of population groups, vaccination of the elderly has been given priority from the outset, given that this is a vulnerable group of citizens at increased risk for serious illness and hospitalization.

According to the data By 14 February published by the European Center for Monitoring and Prevention (ECDC), Cyprus has largely achieved its first target for vaccination coverage for the elderly, is classified in 2η position among European countries in terms of vaccination of people aged 80 and over.

As part of the Vaccination Plan, until Saturday, February 20, A total of 58,490 vaccinations were given, of which 19,221 concerned individuals who had completed their vaccination with both doses of the vaccine.. At the same time, the Ministry of Health continues the vaccination coverage of health professionals, vulnerable groups and the elderly, with the aim of providing 1th dose in the age group of 70 years and over within the next two weeks.

New appointments for people 71 years and older

To achieve the plan, the Ministry of Health announces that from tomorrow, February 23, at 9 am, will be available 16,904 vaccination appointments for people aged 71 and over for all Vaccination Centers in Cyprus. It is noted that from Thursday, February 25, an additional Vaccination Center will be put into operation at Old Electric in Paphos, where up to seven workshops will operate simultaneously. Also, from Friday, February 26, there will be a Vaccination Center at the PASYDY House in Larnaca, where up to seven workshops can also operate simultaneously.

In order to avoid inconvenience and confusion in the Vaccination Centers, and because it has been observed that in some cases the citizens arrive much earlier than their scheduled appointment, a warm appeal is made to the people who will be vaccinated to go to the Vaccination Centers at the time of their appointment and not earlier.

At the same time, citizens belonging to the age group that has a priority for vaccination are advised to make an appointment at the first time available day and time, so that there is a continuous flow in the Vaccination Centers.

It is reminded that depending on the rate of exhaustion of appointments for people over 71 years, citizens will be informed through an announcement about the availability of appointments in next age sub-groups. Citizens are invited to follow the announcements of the Ministry of Health, in order to know the differences in the age group and to make an appointment.
