It is clear that Turkey's provocative actions are aimed at promoting, through those carried out towards another form of solution to the Cyprus problem, something that can not be accepted by us, nor by the international community, said Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulidis, then from a meeting he had in Nicosia with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Nikos Dendias.

In statements after the meeting, they condemned the provocative announcements made yesterday in the context of the Turkish President's illegal visit to the occupied territories, especially in relation to Famagusta.

He said that later today, this issue will be addressed by the Security Council. Mr. Christodoulidis said that, in the first phase, a clear message should be given by the Security Council in Ankara.

He said that with Mr. Dendias they had the opportunity to evaluate the data and exchange views on the next steps, especially regarding the reaction of the European Union to the latest Turkish challenges. The European Union must react immediately and decisively, and its reaction must have a specific content, he added.

He noted that the revitalization of the prospect of resumption of the Cyprus talks, which remains our primary goal, will largely depend on the dynamism and determination of the reaction of the international community.

But for that to be possible, he said, the messages and reaction of the international community must be clear and leave no room for misinterpretation in Ankara.

The moments are very critical, he stressed and said that we are working with absolute seriousness towards the goal of overthrowing the commitments made by Turkey but also the creation of substantial prospects to resume a dialogue on the Cyprus issue that will have real prospects of a positive outcome.

With Greece, he said, we are working in this direction and the next few days will be crucial for how our efforts will develop.

Mr. Dendias said that his visit to Cyprus is a commitment of the Greek Government to stand on the side of the Cypriot Government and the Cypriot people but also on the side of international legitimacy.

He stressed that yesterday's announcements of the Turkish side attempt new accomplishments and the burial of the effort for the reunification of Cyprus, in the most barbaric way violating the UN decisions and international law.

We, he said, will continue our joint efforts with Cyprus to resolve the Cyprus issue within the known framework of international legality. The violation, he said, does not produce rights and he added that this was emphasized in the contacts he had yesterday and today with his counterparts in Israel, France and the USA.

Turkey has committed a new illegality in Varos, he said, confirming Turkish intentions other than extending the occupation of Cyprus.

He stressed that there is no room for improvement in relations between Greece and Turkey, the EU and Turkey as long as Turkey continues to be illegal in Cyprus and said that this is also included in the conclusions of the European Council.

The purpose of his presence in Cyprus, he said, is to coordinate with Cyprus the actions after the new Turkish challenges.

Our response, he said, will be based, as always, on international law and the values that govern us.
