The professor of pathology / infectiology Dr. George Panos spoke about the wave of the pandemic and the increased positive cases in the world on the show Front Page.

Initially regarding the record of cases in many countries every day and at the same time the relaxation of the restrictive measures, Dr. Panos said that these countries had a lockdown for a long time and the citizens have revolted. "People no longer want to be at home and do not understand that the situation is serious. "The fact that Omicron emerged with milder symptoms seems to have made governments think they should relax," he said.

In Cyprus, according to Dr. Panos, most of the citizens treated were people infected with the Delta mutation.

"Around January 27, according to the data we have from South Africa for Omicron, which is the most prevalent in the community, we will have a peak of cases and in the next two weeks we will have a de-escalation," he said.

Asked why a citizen should not stick to Omicron since it is milder, Dr. Panos said that it is unknown if anyone will stick to Omicron or Delta. "Delta has not disappeared. It is in the interest of all of us not to get stuck because of existing side effects or even to get seriously ill. It is better to be protected and this is shown by research. "Those who are vaccinated cross both Delta and Omicron more gently than those who are not vaccinated," said Dr. Panos.
