The Union of Cypriot Pensioners (EKYSY) requested a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare to discuss and resolve the problem concerning the reduction of the amount of the small check received by low-income pensioners, as stated in its announcement.
According to the same announcement, EKYSY has received strong protests from low-income retirees who saw a significant reduction in the small check they receive, compared to the amounts they received previously.
In a letter to the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, he claims that the way in which the Welfare Allowance Management Service acted is contrary to the philosophy and purpose of the special sponsorship.
In the same letter, he adds that it does not make sense "after some increases granted to the pensions of the Social Insurance Fund, to reduce the amount of the special sponsorship".
EKYSY also states that the income limits of the Plan should be revised, taking into account the rate of increase of pensions and increases in prices, so that low-income pensioners or other retirees of the Social Insurance Fund are not wronged.
