It systematically invests in the expansion of mental health structures, says OKYpY

The Directorate of Mental Health Services of the Organization celebrates World Mental Health Day by leading the effort to combat stigma and discrimination

The State Health Services Organization states in its announcement that it systematically invests in the expansion of the existing structures, which fall under the Directorate of Mental Health and notes that these structures, which amount to 37 on a Cyprus-wide basis, are staffed with specialized medical and nursing staff, whose main concern offering quality care and supporting patients.

In its announcement, on the occasion of World Mental Health Day, OKYPY states that specialized and unique services are provided through the Directorate of Mental Health Services, which are not provided by any other provider inside or outside the NHS, such as the Center for Children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders, the Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Eating Disorders for minors, the Psychiatric Clinics in Nicosia and Limassol where optional hospitalization is offered and the Treatment Unit for Addicted Persons which addresses people dependent on alcohol for both physical and mental addiction.

It also mentions that through the Directorate of Mental Health Services, specialized and unique services are provided, such as the Centers for the Administration of Substitute Substances on a pan-Cypriot basis, the smoking cessation program, which operates in every province, while there is also a relevant hotline, the Pediatric Unit of Occupational Therapy, the Athalassa Hospital, the Adolescent Inpatient Department, the Day Centers and the Work Rehabilitation Units.

In addition, he notes that the Directorate of Mental Health Services participates in the European transnational program Joint Action IMPLEMENTAL, which supports the upgrading and revision of mental health programs, while he adds that through the exchange of experiences, the improvement of services, policies and the health system is promoted, with the aim of implementing best practices that have been successfully tested in other European countries, in the Cypriot reality.

Finally, the Department of Mental Health Services of OKYPY assures that it will continue to work to provide high-quality mental health services to all citizens, always within the framework of European best practices.
