Within the day, the written suggestions of the members of the Advisory Scientific Committee regarding the handling of the AstraZeneca vaccine are expected to be submitted to the Minister of Health, Konstantinos Ioannou.
During last night's teleconference, held by the members of the Scientific Group, there was no unanimity for any point of view and different views were heard, regarding the handling of the specific preparation, while it was decided that each member of the TEU submits his own written and the competent Minister of Health.
It is recalled that Konstantinos Ioannou requested yesterday the official position of the Commission, on the occasion of the public positions of scientists, who favor the introduction of age restrictions on the administration of this vaccine.
It is noted that the Ministry so far insists on the recommendations of the European Medicines Agency (Coreper), according to which the benefits from the administration of this vaccine outweigh the risks.
According to KYPE, during the meeting of the scientists, the issue of setting an age restriction on the use of this vaccine was raised, as well as the possibility of its complete withdrawal.
Also, some of the scientists, prefer the continuation of the policy of Cyprus, which faithfully follows the instructions of the EMA, as well as the continuation of the administration of this vaccine, without restrictions.
According to the same information, during the session some of the members of the Scientific Team suggested that an age limit be set for people under 40 years old, while others suggested that it be stopped at the age of 50 or 55 years, such as takes place in several European countries.
Before the Minister today
The members of the TEU have sent their suggestions in writing to the Head of the Group, Konstantinos Tsioutis, who will submit them within the day before the Minister of Health.
The information of KYPE states that the preferred scenario is to limit the use of AstraZeneca to certain ages.
After all, the suggestion not to use it in all new vaccines seems to be supported by several members, however, the majority believes that the vaccine should remain in the choices of the citizens, since large stocks of other companies' preparations are expected within the next time.
Relaxations follow from June 1 - Tomorrow decisions
In the meantime, tomorrow the Council of Ministers may decide on further relaxations, which will take effect after June 1st.
As a competent source stated in KYPE, as everything shows, Cyprus will lift the bans on the movement of citizens from June 1, since the epidemiological data show an improvement.
Besides, according to what has already been announced by the competent Ministry, from June 1 the operation of the indoor areas of the catering businesses will be allowed, while on June 10 the night entertainment venues will open.
In addition, the presence of believers in the Churches increases by 50%, based on capacity, while the second phase of weddings and baptisms is implemented.
Specifically, until the 14th of the month, lunch or dinner will be allowed indoors, for 150 people indoors or 280 outdoors, while at this stage it will be allowed to hold a cocktail party with 250 people, at any time, only outdoors.
The third phase will be implemented on June 15 and according to the Ministry of Health, the number of people indoors will increase to 250 and 350 abroad.
Regarding the cocktail party, the same data remain, ie 250 people outdoors.
From June 1, the fullness of the closed spaces of theaters, theaters and casinos is expected to increase up to 50%, while the same regulation will apply to the holding of conferences.
