Turkey "sets up" a scene of tension: It sent warships to the Cypriot EEZ

Harassment of the Nautical Geo research vessel

research vessel Nautical Geo ENTASI, Turkey

The crescendo of provocation from Turkey has no end. Less than 24 hours have passed since the harassment of the research vessel Nautical Geo inside the Cypriot EEZ and Ankara insists on its stance.

Not only did he extend the Navtex he had issued for the wider area in order to hinder Nautical Geo research, as he insists on claiming that the area is… its continental shelf!

According to Cypriot media, three warships, two frigates and a corvette have been in the Cypriot EEZ since Wednesday night (06.10.2021). In fact, according to SIGMA, the three wars leave nothing close!

It is noted that Nautical Geo is now moored in the port of Larnaca.

Turkey's goal is, on the one hand, to torpedo efforts to build the EastMed gas pipeline and, on the other, to impose its plans for the revival of the "blue homeland".

Cypriot sources speak of "normal piracy", with Turkey citing irregular Navtex issued for alleged naval exercises in the area where the Nautical Geo research vessel would operate its EastMed pipeline, on behalf of Cyprus, Greece and Israel.

The "Eunomia" exercise has been carried out within the Greek EEZ since yesterday (06.10.2021) with the participation of naval and air means from Greece, France and Italy. According to SIGMA, on Wednesday, Greek and French fighters flew over the area of the Turkish navtex.

The chronicle of Nautical Geo harassment

After being harassed by a Turkish frigate off Crete, Nautical Geo arrived in the Cypriot EEZ on September 28th and began measurements. On October 2, however, Turkish investigator Oruc Reis arrived in the same area, along with Turkish warships.

One of them threatened the French Nautical Geo by radio, with the result that it left and the Turkish ship remained χ undisturbed in the area. Now, however, it is anchored in Antalya, Turkey, but the three warships of Ankara remain in the area.
