Kalakouta: No side effects to date from vaccinations in Cyprus

So far, more than 50% of the people, who fall into the second phase of vaccinations and belong to the solar group over 80, have been vaccinated or have been vaccinated through the Vaccination Portal, the Deputy Director of Medical Services told KYPE. , Olga Kalakouta.

According to Ms. Kalakouta, the age group over 80 numbers around 33 thousand people, to note that to date more than 10 thousand people have been vaccinated, as well as two thousand people who live in nursing homes.

He added that if the appointments, which have been arranged through the Vaccination Portal to date, are also calculated, then the coverage exceeds 50%.

He added that with the flow of vaccinations that are being carried out, it is estimated that the vaccinations of people over 80 years of age will be completed by mid-February, while within the same month the vaccinations of people over 75 years of age will begin.

He also said that all available vaccines are given immediately, through appointments, to note that only those related to the second dose are kept.

It is reminded that the quantities received concern two doses per person and following the instructions of the European Medicines Agency and the manufacturers, the quantity required for the 2nd dose is saved for administration at the prescribed time, for each vaccine.

3.510 doses of Phizer vaccines are received in the afternoon

Meanwhile, Ms. Kalakouta told KYPE that the next dose of Phizer vaccines is expected to be received this afternoon, noting that Cyprus will receive another 3.510 doses, of which half will be saved for the second dose.

No side effects to date

Asked if any side effects have been recorded so far from the vaccinations in Cyprus, Ms. Kalakouta assured that "everything is going smoothly" and that no serious side effects have been recorded so far.

In connection with the investigation carried out in Norway, where 23 deaths were recorded, people who had been vaccinated against coronavirus, the Deputy Director of Medical Services said that so far Cyprus has not received any official information on the matter.

Finally, Ms. Kolkouta stated that the implementation of the vaccination plan of Cyprus continues with a great and encouraging response, adding that the massive interest of citizens in vaccination proves their determination to shield their health and to assist in the protection of public health, which will allow a way out of the health crisis.
