Even if the epidemiological picture in Cyprus is largely positive, yesterday's announcements of new cases of coronavirus remind us that there should be no complacency and that the virus is still among us. Experts advise caution and point out the enormous importance of both controls and the continued implementation of self-protection measures.

Yesterday, seven new cases of coronavirus were announced, which resulted from a total of 1.176 laboratory diagnoses, raising the total number in free Cyprus to 1.021.

The profile of yesterday's new cases:

The first incident was identified in the context of the control of 10 thousand employees who were reactivated during the second and third phase of relaxation of the measures and is an employee in a hotel unit in Paphos.

The second case was identified after examination by a private initiative and again concerns a Serbian football player, this time of Doxa, who came to Cyprus on July 10th. It was examined in the context of the regular control carried out by the team of Katokopia on its footballers.

The remaining 5 cases were located in the immigrant classrooms, where they were inspected before joining the Purnara Hospitality Center. They had reached the occupied territories of Syria via Turkey. They were transferred to the Eden Resort Rehabilitation Center in Tersefanou.

They are preparing for any eventuality

The epidemiological situation in Cyprus may have been excellent for weeks, but global data does not allow for complacency.

In the absence of a vaccine, the condition remains fluid and a second wave of coronavirus remains possible in the coming months.

The Minister of Education, Prodromos Prodromou, stated that "vigilance is needed. "We must be prepared for the possibility of a deterioration, but also to take protective measures again and to have restrictions."

In this context, the Ministry of Education, according to Prodromos Prodromou, has prepared protocols that will apply in case of a new outbreak of the virus.

"We have made plans for all possible scenarios, wishing all of us to continue the responsible attitude and to have a smooth start to the school year as every year," said Mr. Prodromou.

The coronation pandemic also highlighted the importance of technology in schools today, with the Minister of Education stating that in collaboration with the Undersecretariat for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy they are preparing a plan to enhance distance education through and equipping schools with the necessary materials.
