After reviewing and evaluating data from international vaccine studies, as well as the recommendation contained in the AstraZeneca Vaccine Instruction Leaflet, it was decided that reduce the period between 1th and 2th dose of this vaccine from 12 to eight (8) weeks.
The decision takes effect today and arrangements have already been made at the Vaccination Centers, so that the appointments for 2η dose of the vaccine of those who will be vaccinated from today onwards with AstraZeneca, to be scheduled on 8η week.
For those who have been vaccinated with AstraZeneca before April 25, the following will apply:
- For the cases they are in from 0 to 9 weeks after vaccination with 1η dose, there will be communication from the Ministry of Health for reprogramming on 8η week.
- For the cases that are a10 to 12 weeks after vaccination with 1η dose, its administration 2th dose will normally performed at 12 weeks.
The goal of the National Vaccination Plan is to rapidly vaccinate most of the population with the available licensed vaccines, in order to achieve a significant level of immunity and to protect citizens from serious illness and hospitalization.
According to the data so far, in Cyprus he has been vaccinated with at least 1η dose 84% of people aged 80 and over, while in age group 70-79 years has been vaccinated 80%. The data is reflected in hospitalizations, where the number of people hospitalized from these ages has decreased significantly. People aged 45 and over are currently being vaccinated, and at the same time this week, people aged 39-44 are given priority for making an appointment.
