Cyprus continues to rely on the EU and the European Parliament in the efforts to reunify the country and end the unacceptable status quo, said the President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiadis in his statements after his meeting with the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, at the Presidential Mansion on Friday.

"For the conditions to be in place for the resumption of negotiations, Turkey should end its unilateral actions that violate international law and which have been strongly condemned by the EU, whether on land or at sea," he stressed.

"There can only be one Cyprus, a single, sovereign, European state, a bi-communal, bi-zonal federation in accordance with the resolutions of the UN Security Council, a state where all residents will be citizens of the EU", he stressed, while praising the efforts by President Anastasiades to restart a constructive dialogue between the parties involved.

Also referring to the issue of immigration, President Anastasiades said that the EU should develop a toolbox for a rapid and effective response in order to strengthen the resilience of member states in the face of this hybrid threat, while regarding Europe's energy efforts independence, he stressed that the Eastern Mediterranean can be a reliable alternative energy corridor and Cyprus is ready to contribute in its own way.

At the same time, both expressed their condolences to the British royal family and the British people on the death of Queen Elizabeth on Thursday, September 8.
