At a press conference at Larnaca airport, in the presence of Transport Minister Giannis Karousou and Deputy Tourism Minister Savva Perdiou, it was announced that the Hungarian airline Wizz is establishing Cyprus as its permanent base.

Speaking at the conference, the company's director said that "we came to stay." The Minister of Transport described the development as important, in the effort made by Cyprus to restart its tourism industry.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism stressed that there are prospects for the transfer of additional tourists to Cyprus, up to 300.000 all year round, as the company will also operate flights in the winter.

Wizz will connect Cyprus with regular flights to Greece (Athens, Thessaloniki), Germany, Poland, Denmark, Finland and Romania. The company's flights start on July 1.

In statements after the conference, Transport Minister Giannis Karousos said that in August, they estimate that there will be 600.000 visits to Cyprus.
