What professions does the minimum wage cover in Cyprus?

It is noted, however, that today the minimum wage in Cyprus covers specific professions, based on the Minimum Wages Decree of 2012, which provides:

Each saleswoman, clerk, nursing assistant, babysitter assistant, babysitter assistant, school assistant and caregiverwho works full time should receive initial monthly salary which amounts to at least €870 gross and after 6 months of continuous employment with the same employer, this salary should be increased at least to € 924 gross.

Each security guard must receive an initial hourly wage of at least € 4,90 gross and after a 6-month period of continuous employment with the same employer, this salary must to increase to € 5,20 gross.

Each cleaner must receive an initial hourly wage of at least € 4,55 gross and after a 6-month period of continuous employment with the same employer, this salary must increase to € 4,84 gross.

The minimum wage in the EU

It is worth noting that the latest official figures for the level of the minimum wage in the countries of the European Union, according to Eurostat, show that the monthly minimum wages are below 700 euro in Eastern European countries and above 1.500 euro in the northwest of the EU.

As of 1 January 2021, 21 of the 27 EU Member States have introduced national minimum wages, with the exception of Denmark, Italy, Cyprus, Austria, Finland and Sweden.
