Compliance with the directive of the European Aviation Safety Authority for Boeing, after Sunday's plane crash with the crash of a Boeing 737 Max aircraft of Ethiopian Airlines, is not expected to affect Cyprus to any degree, the Chief of Unit told KYPE Flight Andreas Paspallidis.

"It will only affect the companies that have such aircraft and in case of people coming to Cyprus, the same companies can put another type of aircraft and transport them. "No negative impact is expected for Cyprus," he noted.

He clarified that such aircraft were very few, were non-Cypriot from some airlines and that the activities of such aircraft in Cyprus were very limited.

In Cyprus, he said, we do not have such planes written in the Cypriot register.

"We are now waiting with the European Union, with which we are in constant communication, with the American Civil Aviation authorities as well as the manufacturer, for anything new," he added.

Cyprus complied with the directive of the European Aviation Safety Authority on Tuesday night.

Mr. Paspallidis said that as Cyprus we follow the directive and the decisions made by the European Union and we have common rules and we decided that.

Asked about it, he said that there is no expiration date of the directive. "The results of the investigation into the accident are awaited, what caused it because at the moment nothing is confirmed as to what may have been caused in the two accidents that took place within four months, one four months ago in Indonesia and the recent one in "Ethiopia," he said.

Therefore, he noted, it continues and will continue until the directive enters into force, while we are in daily contact with the European Aviation Safety Agency.

As he stated, "around 7 pm, the European Commission issued a statement on aviation safety in Europe and suggested that it enter into force at 9 pm to ban such aircraft from flying to Europe."

We as Cyprus, he added, made a decision, notified all agencies and the Air Traffic Control Center and our airports not to accept such aircraft either at our airports or in the airspace of Cyprus and this runs from 9 pm.
