The Front Page hosted the Deputy Director of Medical Services of the Ministry of Health, Olga Kalakouta, who spoke about the progress of the vaccination program in Cyprus and the change of vaccine during the second dose.

He initially said that Cyprus must be ready to identify possible cases of the Indian mutation. He added that the way to deal with it is to vaccinate citizens.

At the same time, he stated that the goal is not only the immunity of the herd, but also the uniform distribution of vaccinations in the country. "As an operational team, we are seeking vaccination with the first dose by the end of June and at a rate of 70% as requested by the European Union."

He clarified that initially the Medical Services targeted the elderly, while now they seek to vaccinate the young who are even more active.

He went on to stress that in order for the vaccination program for minors to proceed, specific vaccines must be licensed by the European Medicines Agency.

As for cancer patients, he said they were given the opportunity to be vaccinated without the age group criterion. "A large number of cancer patients have already been vaccinated."

Ms. Kalakouta also spoke about the change of vaccine during the second dose, clarifying that so far in Cyprus there has been a change of vaccine three times.

"It happened because of the side effects and after the recommendation of the Pharmaceutical Services, which, however, were not connected with the vaccines." He explained that these cases did not involve the same vaccine.

Finally, he clarified that someone who has been infected with the coronavirus should be vaccinated within three months.
