Cyprus had the 3rd lowest reduction in passenger flights between the Member States of the European Union in December. According to data published by Eurostat, in December 2021, the number of passenger flights in the EU increased by 130% compared to the corresponding period in 2020, although it still remains below the levels prevailing before the coronavirus pandemic.

More specifically, Cyprus is ranked in the 3rd lowest position with a decrease of -9% (Croatia -6% and Greece -8%), with the Czech Republic and Austria recording the largest decrease with a percentage of -41% .gr

Overall, according to Eurostat data, compared to 2019, in 2021 the country that showed the most signs of recovery in terms of the number of passenger flights was Greece with -29%, with Cyprus and Luxembourg following with -38 % and -39%, respectively. Ireland recorded the lowest signs of recovery with -64%, followed by Slovenia and the Czech Republic with -62%.

The data presented by Eurostat is an encouraging development for our country, as it seems that Cyprus remains close to its goal of gradual and complete recovery to pre-pandemic levels.
