The decision to tighten the measures for dealing with the pandemic or for a new lockdown is out of the discussion, the Minister of Health clarifies.

Speaking to the third, Michalis Hatzipandelas, said that yesterday's meeting with the scientific team evaluated all issues related to the pandemic.

Final decisions, he said, will be taken by the Council of Ministers, which will meet on Friday, as the current decree expires on July 31st.

At this stage, the Minister said, no tightening of the measures is being considered, but better supervision of the existing ones.

Small differences, he said, will be made in relation to the safe pass to make it more functional.

Regarding the third dose of the vaccine, Mr. Hadjipandelas said that the scientists are in favor, but it is expected that the European Union will give the green light first.

The Minister of Health expressed the assessment that on Friday decisions will be made for the vaccination of children under 16.

Some scientists, he said, have reservations about vaccinating children 12 years of age and older.

He clarified that the decision to terminate the provision of free rap tests from the first of August does not change, with some exceptions.

As he explained, rapid tests cost 6 million euros a month.

Part of this money, he stressed, will be channeled to support hospitals, which are under increasing pressure.
