A 25-year-old man was detained in connection with a forgery case.

According to the spokesman of the Paphos Police Department, Assistant Police Director, Michalis Ioannou, yesterday at noon, at Paphos Airport, a man of African origin was presented for departure, on a flight to Brussels.

This person presented a Finnish passport, which at first sight seemed to be forged. Also the person who was depicted in the passport was different from the person who was in possession of it.

The person in question was taken to the Paphos airport investigation office. The interrogator admitted that his passport and an identity card he had were forged, and said that he was 25 years old and came from a country on the African continent.

He was also found to be a political asylum seeker in Cyprus. Further examinations revealed that on 22/4/21 he had submitted an application for asylum, which is under consideration. He was arrested for the self-evident crime of forgery.

TAE Paphos is investigating the case.
