The Ministry of Labor and Social Security with a modifying bill, submitted to Parliament strengthens its provisions on the Protection of Wages law, following the finding of violations of the law, especially during the period of its pandemic Covid-19.

According to the explanatory report, the amendment of the legislation was deemed necessary, as in recent years and especially recently with the spread of the pandemic Covid-19, were observed by the competent Department of Labor Relations, of the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance, repeated violations of the provisions of this legislation.

"From the above, the purpose of the bill is to amend the basic law, in order to effectively ensure the basic right to wages of employees," it said.

In particular, the amending bill includes provisions that provide for the obligation to pay the employee's salary to a bank account of his choice for purposes of transparency, written records and easy documentation of employment, except where the frequency of payment is based on a collective agreement. weekly basis in the workplace, in which cases payment can be made in cash or by check, the introduction of the obligation as agreed in writing between the parties involved any deduction of employee salary.

As it is mentioned that in order to consult with the social partners, OEB, KEVE, SEK, PEO and DEOK, it was held, with the convening of a Technical Committee, at the stage of drafting the text of the legislation, when the views and positions of the partners were expressed.

The amending bill was approved by the Council of Ministers, at its meeting, dated 27.5.2022, following a Proposal by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, who acts as Minister of Labor and Social Insurance.
