Campaign to control hands-free driving and traffic light violations. The campaign will start tomorrow, Monday, January 15, 2018 and will last until Sunday, January 21, 2018.
Driver distraction, internationally, is one of the most important factors that greatly increase the likelihood of being involved in a traffic collision. In fact, the use of a mobile phone while driving also plays a decisive role.
Relevant research at European level shows that a rate of 10-30% of all road collisions is due to distraction. This percentage is also confirmed by the statistics in Cyprus for the deadly traffic accidents of the last five years. According to these statistics, about one in four fatal accidents, or 24,89%, was caused by careless and careless driving. These statistics, either at European or Cypriot level, clearly show the seriousness of the problem.
For this reason and with the aim of reducing traffic collisions and consolidating the correct road conscience, the Cyprus Police announces a campaign to control free driving and the violation of traffic lights.
