The Deputy Regional Governor of Attica, George Karameros, and the Mayor of Maroussi, George Patoulis, are appealing to the citizens not to move due to the floods from the strong storm that has been hitting Attica for the last two hours. Drivers have been trapped in their cars and in at least eight cases they have been released by the Fire Brigade in Maroussi, Vrilissia and Pallini.
The wave of bad weather is manifested in various areas of Attica, while hail is falling in Maroussi.
Since the occurrence of the storm, the Fire Brigade has already received about 170 calls from areas in northern Attica and especially from North Penteli, Kifissia, Melissia, Maroussi and Vrilissia.
There is more mobility in the area of Kifissia, where the calls concern water pumping and assistance. In fact, Fire Department officials estimate that calls will increase, as there is an upward trend.
Vehicle traffic problems
The bad weather has caused problems on various roads in Attica.
According to the police, due to the accumulation of water, the Erymanthos bridge in Kifissia and the side road of the New National Road Athens - Lamia, at the height of Vasilopoulos in Nea Erithraia, are closed to vehicles.
There are also problems on the Kalyftaki bridge in the current to Lamia, mainly in the right lane.
The wave of bad weather is expected to afflict the fire victims even more, as according to the forecasts of EMY, the phenomena may be intense.
In an emergency weather report issued by EMY, the bad weather will affect Attica from time to time at noon and in the afternoon. Also, central Macedonia (mainly Halkidiki), Thessaly, the Sporades and Evia will be affected from time to time until nightfall.
