Cyprus-Lebanon cooperation with EU assistance for immigration

The cooperation between the Republic of Cyprus and Lebanon for the effective management of immigration was discussed during today's meeting between the President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis, and the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Mr. Najib Mikati.

President Christodoulidis, who visited Beirut today, had a private meeting and extended talks with the Prime Minister of Lebanon and then met with the Speaker of the country's Parliament, Mr. Nabih Berri.

During the talks with the Prime Minister of Lebanon, it was noted that the migrant problem is common and that it must be common to deal with it through coordinated actions.

A very good discussion was held during which the cooperation of the two countries was agreed with the substantial assistance of the European Commission.

For his part, President Christodoulidis referred to the ongoing discussions at the EU level on this issue, pointing out that the implementation of the EU's intentions also depends on the results of the actions on both sides to deal with immigration and the increased flows to Cyprus .

Lebanon's leadership recognized the imperative and committed to intensifying surveillance efforts to identify illegal trafficking rings.

It was also agreed that there should be commitment on both sides in the implementation of what has been agreed during today's talks, as well as that there should be coordination between Cyprus - Lebanon - the European Commission, as well as the undertaking of actions between Lebanon and the EU.
