Nicosia City Hall was visited on Monday morning by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, as part of his two-day official visit to Cyprus.

The German President arrived, accompanied by the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulidis, at 11.30 am. at Nicosia City Hall, where they were welcomed by Nicosia Mayor Konstantinos Giorkatzis.

Afterwards, Mr. Steinmeier greeted the members of the municipal council and headed to the top floor of the building, where, facing the skyline of the old city, free and occupied, the various points that make up the Green Line were explained to him.

This was followed by a walking tour of the streets around the town hall, during which Mr. Giorkatzis referred to the start-up business community that has developed in the walled city, while President Christodoulidis stopped at the barricades and the guardhouse they encountered along the way, pointing out points about their history and current configuration.

In addition, the three men had a short discussion with members of the CYENS Center of Excellence, whose building is located just behind the Nicosia City Hall and in which the Municipality participates as a partner.

Concluding the tour, Mr. Steinmeier left with the rest of the German delegation for the remainder of his program.
