Due to the ongoing heatwave in our region, the Mediterranean countries are starting to lose tourists for the summer holidays.

There are many who prefer to visit more northern countries with a cooler climate.

Speaking on the show "Mesimeri ka Kati", the Director of the Department of Meteorology Kleanthis Nicolaidis, emphasized the impact of climate change on the economy of countries internationally and by extension on the tourism industry of Cyprus.

Huge demand

Asked about this, the Honorary President of Travel Agents Akis Kelepesis, answered that the bookings for our country have not decreased this summer, on the contrary "there is a huge demand and the arrivals are increasing".

However, he emphasized the need for reprogramming the tourist product.

"We take into account climate change, the issue of hypertourism in some countries and the great demand for long trips," he added.

Winter investment

According to Mr. Kelepesis, we should adapt to international changes and more emphasis should be placed on the winter demand in our country.

"It is time to invest in the winter season. We are not going for an extension of the summer season, but for changes, to invest in the winter months", he clarified.
