The 27-year-old was arrested last night at the Xanthi Security Department and after an overnight examination confessed to the crime, which the police director described as a "monster", the like of which he has never encountered before.
The perpetrator, whose name Mr. Godosidis did not want to disclose until a prosecutor's order was issued, said that a criminal case had been filed for the crimes of murder, rape, robbery and arson.
The 27-year-old claimed in his apology that he attacked the young girl for reasons of sexual passion and then hit her, doused her with gasoline and set her on fire to cover his tracks.
The perpetrator, who did not know the victim personally, only from a distance, approached the 34-year-old, whom he had earlier spotted heading to her house with a friend, immobilized her on the floor of the apartment building and sexually abused her.
